No decision on accepting assistance of foreign judges

The Government says no decision has been taken on accepting the assistance of foreign judges in the accountability process over incidents related to the war.
Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva told Parliament today that there have been requests from some groups and individuals to have foreign judges in the domestic accountability process.
However he said it is in the hands of Parliament and the Government to decide if foreign judges should be involved in the accountability process.
The Deputy Minister was responding to a question posed in Parliament today by opposition Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila.
Gammanpila had also raised a question on the Global Tamil Forum and if it still wants an Eelam State and the?Deputy Minister said that the Global Tamil Forum has agreed to work with the Government.
However?Gammanpila was not happy with the response and this led to an exchange of words between?Gammanpila and the Deputy Minister.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya then intervened and told?Gammanpila to accept the response given by the Deputy Minister.
Gammanpila however objected to the stand taken by the Speaker. (Colombo Gazette)
