Expanded Iranamadu airstrip opens

The expanded airstrip at Iranamadu, once used by the LTTE for its air operations, was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today. The runway can handle aircraft such as the Hercules C-130 and Antonov AN-32. The President was flown to Iranamadu in a MA-60 aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force Helitours. Polls on September 7?

Elections for the Northern, North Western and Central Provincial Councils will be held on September 7, Government sources told The Sunday Leader. The North Western and Central Provincial Councils will be dissolved by June 20 after which the dates for the elections will be announced. Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma says there is nothing wrong in falling in love and the police have no right to arrest young couples who just hold hands or sit together under an umbrella.
