Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Parliamentarian and Deputy Minister?Nishantha Muthuhettigama today urged former President Mahinda Rajapaksa not to divide the SLFP.
He said that the SLFP is facing several challenges in the current political environment.
Muthuhettigama said that?Rajapaksa got a high number of votes in the Kurunegala district as a result of the backing he had in?the SLFP.
He said that Rajapaksa must now ensure the SLFP remains united and not split and only then can the SLFP win the next Local Government election.
Muthuhettigama, who during the former regime was a strong supporter of Rajapaksa, said that the former President must not be misled by those who have personal agendas.
He warned, strong SLFP members will not allow the party to split and that they will begin a program to ensure the party remains united.
Muthuhettigama also invited SLFP members in the joint opposition to resolve their differences in the party through negotiations and ensure both Rajapaksa and President Maithripala Sirisena work together in the party. (Colombo Gazette)
