Army denies claims Giritala army camp was sealed

The army today denied claims that the Giritale army camp has been sealed to conduct investigations over the disappearance of journalist?Prageeth Ekneligoda.

Army spokesman Jayanath Jayaweera said that based on a court order the army is in the process of gathering the information requested by the court in relation to the case of the missing journalist.

He said that a special team had been deployed to the?Giritale army camp to gather the information required by court.

“A legal team from the army has also been sent,” the army spokesman said.

The army spokesman said that the team has gathered some documents from the?Giritale army camp and locked the cupboards inside which the documents were kept.

“The camp was not sealed. Only these cupboards were locked,” he said.

The army spokesman said that the army commander has issued instructions for the army to ensure that all the documents required by the court are gathered and produced to court. (Colombo Gazette)
