India says no opposition to giving Lanka a ship

The Indian government says there was no opposition to giving the Sri Lanka navy a coast guard ship ship.

Indian?Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh said that Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Varaha was transferred on lease to the Sri Lankan Navy in April, 2006.

The lease was extended from time to time. On the request of the Sri Lankan side, the ship was gifted to the Government of Sri Lanka on a permanent basis in August 2015 as a goodwill gesture in line with India’s?commitment to enhance bilateral defence cooperation.

Inderjit Singh said no representation opposing the Government decision for gifting ICGS Varaha to Sri Lanka has been received in the Ministry.

This information was given by Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply to Shri PR Senthil Nathan and Shri P Nagarajan in the Indian Lok Sabha, the Indian media reported.

Laws to be introduced to strictly enforce buffer zones

New laws will likely be introduced to?strictly enforce buffer zones in disaster prone areas, Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said today. Bangladesh to provide US $500,000 in cash to Sri Lanka

The Bangladesh Government has decided to provide cash assistance of US $500, 000 to support the victims of recent flood and landslides in Sri Lanka.
