Injectable heroin circulating in Slave Island

The Health Ministry says information has come to light of injectable heroin circulating in the Slave Island area.

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne told Parliament today that the spread of HIV has been contained as heroin use had been limited so far to consuming the snuff powder.

However the Minister said that now heroin with injections have surfaced in?Slave Island and this could pose a threat to the spread of HIV.

The Minister said that measures will be taken to educate the public on how HIV could spread and the precautions which need to be taken. (Colombo Gazette)
