Rajitha urges GMOA to have talks not protest

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne urged the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) to have talks with the Government to address their issues.

A statement by the Health Ministry quoited the Minister as saying, having discussions and not protesting, is the best was to resolve any issue.

The Minister said that the GMOA never had talks with him on the vehicle permit issue mentioned in the budget or increasing the basic salary of Government doctors?by?Rs. 10,000.

He says at times he is forced?to hear of concerns of the GMOA through the media and not at face to face discussions.

Dr. Senaratne said that the last time he met the GMOA the discussion focused on improving the health sector.

The Minister also noted that the last discussion he had with the GMOA ended positively. (Colombo Gazette)

Police close road near Parliament to block protest march

The Police have closed the road near Parliament to block a protest march by university students. University students were heading towards Parliament when the Police closed the road. Meanwhile, the court has refused to ban a protest from taking place near Parliament. The Police had sought a court order against the protest set to take place tomorrow and on Friday.
