Northern Provincial Council (NPC) members of the?Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today demanded the appointment of a Tamil speaking Government Agent (GA) for Vavuniya.
Health Minister of the Northern Province, TNA member Dr. P. Sathiyalingam said that the TNA had raised the issue with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He says Wickremesinghe had given an assurance that it will address their concerns but they later found out that someone who cannot communicate in Tamil had been appointed to the post.
Former Prison Commissioner General Rohana Pushpakumara took over this week?as the new district secretary for Vavuniya.
Sathiyalingam said that the TNA was calling for a Tamil speaking GA so that he understands the issues faced by the people in the area.
He says the Tamils in the North expected a lot when the new Government took office but even some simple issues are now not being addressed. (Colombo Gazette)
