Joint opposition threatens to withdraw from APC

17 Nov, 2015

The joint opposition today threatened to withdraw from the All Party Conference (APC) if the APC does not address the real issues faced by the country.

National Freedom Front (NFF) leader and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said that the joint opposition has no issue in taking part in the APC if it has an acceptable goal in mind.

However he said if the joint opposition does not agree with the ultimate goal of the APC then it will discuss the stand to be taken with the leader of the newly formed join opposition, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) leader Dinesh Gunawardena.

The APC was held with President Maithripala Sirisena following the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in Geneva to discuss the way forward.

Most political parties represented in Parliament and outside Parliament took part in the meeting. (Colombo Gazette)
