A passenger was arrested at the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) with foreign currency valued at Rs 66,076,213.00
The customs department said that the Sri Lankan male, aged 35, a resident of Weligama, was arrested at the departure lounge, when he was about to leave for Dubai from the Mattala Airport.
The passenger had concealed the foreign currency in the false bottom of a baggage and was about to board a plane to Dubai this morning.
Customs officers US$ 184,750, Euro 183,400, UK Pound 16,660, Kuwait Dinar 2690, Saudi Riyal 77,500, Qatar Riyal 16,000, UAE Dirham 11,900, Denish Kroner 67,000, Swiss Frank 1,200 and Oman Riyal 1,125. (Colombo Gazette)
