The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will look to take control of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) which is currently governed by the United National Party.
Minister Faiszer Musthapha said that the UPFA is determined to win the upcoming Local Government (LG) elections under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena.
He said that the UPFA will look at taking control of the CMC through the election scheduled to take place in March next year.
The Minister said that the public have a bad impression about members of the Local Government and that impression must change.
He said that today the issue of race and religion does not arise and the public in the country go about their day to day activities as Sri Lankans.
Last week President Maithripala Sirisena had said that he will lead the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to victory at the upcoming Local Government elections.
He added the SLFP is immortal and he does not want to see the SLFP?s defeat. The President while admitting that the party was defeated at the two previous elections stressed the importance of evolving a programme to ensure its victory after a careful study of the reasons that led to such defeats.
The President added that the party activists who have maintained a good rapport with the public will be selected to contest the polls. (Colombo Gazette)
