Tax defaulters to get a wake up call

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake says tax defaulters must be given a wake up call by the relevant officials.
Speaking at a function held today to mark the 15th anniversary of the Inland Revenue Department, the Finance Minister said that it is those who can pay taxes who fail to pay.
The Minister said that some people take advantage of what the Government has to offer but yet fail to pay their taxes on time.
He said that tax defaulters must be encouraged to pay taxes on time and this is part of the responsibility of the Inland Revenue Department.
The Minister also said that the Government will be introducing a revolutionary budget this month and under the budget the Government hopes to earn most of its revenue through taxes next year. (Colombo Gazette)
