Finance Minister and United National Party (UNP) MP Ravi Karunanayake today demanded the resignation of United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Bandula Gunawardena from Parliament.
Speaking in Parliament today, Karunanayake said that Gunawardena made attempted to mislead the public by making a false statement during Parliament proceedings yesterday.
Gunawardena had yesterday made a statement with regards to Karunanayake’s full name and offered to resign if his claims were proved wrong.
However hours later Gunawardena withdrew his statement saying it was a mistake.
Karunanayake however told Parliament yesterday that Gunawardena had made similar allegations in the past as well which he disregarded but this time he feels Gunawardena must resign.
A heated exchange of words later erupted between the Government benches and opposition members and the Speaker had to suspend sittings for five minutes. (Colombo Gazette)
