President assures solution to prisoners on fast

President Maithripala Sirisena has assured to look into the concerns raised by Tamil political prisoners on a death fast at prisons around the country.

Justice Minister Wijeydasa Rajapaksha and Opposition leader R. Sampanthan had spoken to the President today on the issue, Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran said.

He said that during the separate telephone conversations between the President and the two MPs the President had assured that he will address the issue by the end of this month.

Meanwhile demonstrations were staged in Jaffna today demanding the release of the Tamil prisoners. Several Tamil politicians took part in the demonstration. (Colombo Gazette)
