Twist in Seya murder probe, another suspect confesses

The investigations into the murder of 4 1/2 year old Seya Sadewmini took another twist today after the brother of the main suspect arrested over the murder confessed to the killing.

Earlier the main suspect,?Dinesh Priyashantha alias Kondaya had confessed to the murder and was being investigated when his brother who was arrested over the weekend claimed he had killed the girl.

A court order had been obtained to detain Kondaya’s brother for 72 hours?to be questioned.

Two others arrested earlier, including a 17 year old boy, were released after DNA tests found they were not directly involved in the rape and murder of the child.

The 17 year old boy has later complained that he was tortured while he was in police custody. (Colombo Gazette)

Two killed in hit-and-run in Syambalanduwa

Two people were killed following a?hit-and-run road incident in Syambalanduwa early this morning, the police media unit said. The police said that an unidentified vehicle has crashed into a motorcycle along the Batticaloa-Monaragala road and fled the scene. Two people who were on the?motorcycle had sustained serious injuries and had died on admission to hospital. Investigations are underway.
