Cameron says resolution on Lanka a crucial step

03 Oct, 2015

British Prime Minister David Cameron says the resolution on Sri Lanka adopted by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is a crucial step towards uncovering the truth about alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka, ensuring accountability for the past and respect for human rights now and in the future.

Cameron said Britain is committed to standing up for those affected by Sri Lanka?s civil war, and has been instrumental in the United Nations (UN) investigation and adoption of this resolution.

“I welcome the Sri Lankan government?s commitment to ensuring those responsible are held to account and I encourage them to continue to work with the UN,” he added.

He recalled that when he visited Sri Lanka?he?was struck by the huge potential of the country and he?urged President Maithripala Sirisena to develop the work he has already started ? to build a peaceful, prosperous and united country where every community has a voice. (Colombo Gazette)
