Japanese PM Abe to meet Ranil next month

Arrangements are being made for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to hold talks with French, Turkish and Sri Lankan leaders in Japan over three days in early October, a government source said, according to The Japan Times.

A meeting with French Prime Minister Manuel Valls is envisioned on Oct. 5, one with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Oct. 6 and another with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Oct. 7, the source said.

It will be Valls? first visit to Japan since he took office in March last year. Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Sri Lanka?s new prime minister in August, while Erdogan last visited Japan in January 2014 as Turkey?s prime minister. (Colombo Gazette)

Government notes shortage of staff in Foreign Service

The Government noted there is a shortage of staff in Sri Lanka’s Foreign Service.? The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Foreign Affairs said that the recruitment of staff to the Foreign Service has not been carried out since 2018. As a result, there is a shortfall of qualified staff in the foreign service.
