British Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth office, Hugo Swire, today offered the support of the British Government to help Sri Lanka implement the recommendations of the report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Speaking during the 30th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Swire said that he listened closely to the statement made by Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera to the Council and was encouraged by Sri Lanka?s willingness to engage with the international community, as it seeks to deliver lasting peace.
?We commend the newly elected Government for beginning to address post-conflict accountability and reconciliation,? he said.
He said the UK hopes expects Sri Lanka to take forward the recommendations made in the High Commissioner?s report and deliver the credible processes and mechanisms it has promised. (Colombo Gazette)
