Armitage and President Sirisena hold talks

08 Sep, 2015

Former United States Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage met President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat today.

In an OP-ED contribution to Wall Street Journal in January following the Presidential election, Armitage strongly advocated that the U.S. move quickly to take advantage of the opening presented by the newly elected government (of President Maithripala Sirisena)” while laying down a trajectory for the revival of Sri Lanka-US relations.

Armitage was once deeply involved in the peace process during the period Ranil Wickremasinghe was heading the Government under President Chandrika Kumaratunga. (Colombo Gazette)
