France hopes polls helps inter-community reconciliation

20 Aug, 2015

The French Government says it hopes the outcome of the Parliamentary election will help continue the action taken since the election of President Maithripala Sirisena in support of human rights and inter-community reconciliation.

A spokesperson of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development said that France welcomes the smooth running of the parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka, which saw high turnout amongst the population.

?This poll marked one more step forward towards strengthening democracy. We hope it will also help continue the action taken since the election of President Maithripala Sirisena in support of human rights and inter-community reconciliation,? the spokesperson said.

France says it stands alongside the Sri Lankan authorities and people in this process and intends to work with the new government to strengthen bilateral relations. (Colombo Gazette)
