Two Chinese arrested with cash and gems

Two Chinese Nationals were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport with US$ 50, 690.00 and?Baht 133,400 valued at Rs. 7,372,626.00, the Customs Department said.

A Customs Department spokesman said that the two Chinese, aged 26 and 59, also had in their possession?46 Gems (Garnet) valued at Rs. 452,800.00, all concealed in their hand bags.

They had attempted to take the cash and gems to New Delhi via a Srilankan Airlines flight when they were arrested last afternoon (Saturday).

Investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)
