UPFA backs solution under 13th Amendment

09 Aug, 2015

The United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) says it supports a political solution to address the National issue,?under the 13th Amendment to the constitution.

UPFA member and candidate at the Parliamentary election, Dr. Charitha Herath, said that the UPFA proposes?a unitary Sri Lanka with powers shared with the provinces under the 13th Amendment.

“We do not believe in strengthening only parts of the country (for example like the “megapolis” proposed by the UNP). All parts of the country must see the benefits of development,” he said.

He also said that majority support is needed to address the interests of the minorities and only a leader who gets that support will be?able to address such issues.

“Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is still the leader who has the support of the majority, and he is the one who has shown the most commitment towards addressing issues of the minority,” Herath said.

Dr. Herath said this while explaining the UPFA manifesto during a chat on social media. (Colombo Gazette)
