Police deployed as clash erupts near Grandpass

Riot police were deployed near the Grandpass area as clashes erupted this morning, reporters in the area and the police said.

The clash erupted after once person was reported to have died during an attempt by the police to arrest a woman for having heroin in her possession.

Residents in the area accused the police over the death of the resident in the area and clashed with the police.

Police Special Task Force officers and the riot police were later deployed to bring the situation under control. (Colombo Gazette)

Former Sports Minister Aluthgamage arrested and granted bail

Former Sports Minister?Mahindananda Aluthgamage was arrested today over allegations of being involved in fraud when he was a Minister.
