The commission investigating reports on missing people, is to hold public sittings in Batticaloa later this month, a commission spokesman said.
The Presidential Commission on Missing Persons will hold sittings from 22-25 August in Batticaloa.
Secretary to the Commission, H.W. Gunadasa said that 1200 people have been invited to make oral statements over complaints they had made on people reported missing during and soon after the war.
Gunadasa said that during previous sittings held in Batticaloa, the Commission had received 5119 complaints regarding missing people.
He said, of this 1200 people had been invited to make oral statements over the 4 day period at two locations in Batticaloa.
Separately, the commission expects fresh written complaints to be submitted to the Commission when it meets in Batticaloa. (Colombo Gazette)
