MOU signed between UNP and UNF partners

MOUA Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed at Temple Trees this morning between the United National Party (UNP) and its partners in the United National Front (UNF) for Good Governance.

UNP leader and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickreme and UNP General Secretary Kabir Hasheem signed the MOU on behalf of the UNP.

Jathika Hela Urumaya General Secretary Patali Champika Ranawaka and JHU Chairman the venerable Athureliya Rathana thero signed the MOU on behalf of the JHU.

Members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Part breakaway faction led by Rajitha Senaratne, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and civil society members also signed the MOU with the UNP.

Wickremesinghe said that the MOU will ensure the revolution achieved on January 8 during the Presidential election is protected.

He said that the attempt by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to return to power is a threat to the January 8 revolution.

The United Natioal Party had yesterday formally proposed and later agreed to register the United National Front after the August 17 Parliament election.

The UNP, at a special convention, agreed on the proposal to also contest the Parliament election next month as the United National Front for Good Governance under the elephant symbol by including members from other political parties who have extended support to the UNP.

The proposal was made by UNP General Secretary Kabir Hashim and a vote was later taken by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Wickremesinghe announced that the proposal had been adopted following a majority vote at the UNP special convention.

The United National Front will look to campaign for good governance at the August 17 Parliament election with Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Ministerial candidate. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. UNP has created new outlet besides Party policies of new alliance of incorrigible corrupted , that new politicians recruited for it class and its Party.

    New faces of rotten eggs has admitted to UNP that has been well verse origin of Terrorist , Lumepns and anarchist politicians of anti-democratic segments.
    Corrupted persons will pave path for its ruin national politics of UNP.

    They will definitely undermined whole foundation of prevailing democracy of Party and the Country.

  2. Graet news, UNF will be victorious with a huge MAJORITY of seats….a change is always good and UNF will be free to carry on to develop the country sans corruption , & Nepotism

  3. This is not to prevent corruption, To gain power using Rajapaksa as an excuse. Why only Rajapkasa’s corruption is important? Why not investigate about others. Many people went to FCID to complain about Sajth Premadasa and others but they were threatened and chased away by FCID. This is the reality of FCID, Unless Rajapaksa is connected no inquiry.
