Former Uva Province Chief Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa says he will be contesting the upcoming Parliament elections.
Rajapaksa, who was among those present at Madamulana yesterday to extend support to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, told the Colombo Gazette that he will be contesting from the Monaragala district.
Shasheendra Rajapaksa said that all those supporting?former President Mahinda Rajapaksa are keen to protect the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
He also said that?Mahinda Rajapaksa will announce soon under which party and from which district he will contest the August 17 election.
Shasheendra Rajapaksa also claimed that only a fraction of the SLFP members who are supporting the former President were present at Madamulana yesterday.
“The fact that many were not there does not mean they are not supporting him,” Rajapaksa added.
Shasheendra Rajapaksa claimed that over 85 former Parliamentarians are backing?Mahinda Rajapaksa and that number is expected to grow as election day draws near. (Colombo Gazette)
