Probe by FCID to continue despite dissolution

The investigations being carried out by the police Financial Crimes Investigations Divsiion (FCID) will continue despite the dissolution of Parliament.

Public Order Minister John Amaratunga said that several people still question as to why more politicians have not been arrested over corruption.

He said that the authorities need to first conduct comprehensive investigations and then arrest suspects only if there is concrete evidence to back corruption charges.

The Minister noted that already several key figures have been investigated and questioned in relation to fraud and corruption.

He also noted that some members of the former Government were arrested based on evidence provided by the FCID and some were either remanded or freed on bail.

Amaratunga said that investigations are still continuing into?fraud and corruption and the FCID will continue its work?despite the dissolution of Parliament on Friday night. (Colombo Gazette)
