Foreign Ministry unaware of Obama visit

The Foreign Ministry today said that it was unaware of a visit to Sri Lanka by US President Barack Obama being scheduled?this year.

Minister and United National Party Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella had said yesterday?that while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Secretary of State John Kerry had already visited Sri Lanka, US President Barack Obama is expected to visit Sri Lanka by the end of this year.

However?Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mahishini Colonne said that the Foreign Ministry is unaware of such a visit being confirmed.

“We are not aware of a visit at this time by the US President,” she said.

She that the Foreign Ministry understands there is a possibility President Obama may visit Asia later this year.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that Sri Lanka will welcome a visit to Sri Lanka by President Obama as that would be the first visit to Sri Lanka by a US President. (Colombo Gazette)
