Sri Lankan escapes from police custody in India

prisoner-escapeA Sri Lankan national allegedly escaped from police custody at the CMBT in Koyambedu, Chennai, The Hindu newspaper reported. They were on their way to Puzhal prison where he was remanded on charges of smuggling drugs.

Suresh alias Nishanth (32), a native of Colombo, arrived at the CMBT around 12 a.m. on Friday from Pudukkottai after a court hearing, escorted by Armed Reserve constable Lazar.

He requested Lazar to allow him to use the toilet. Lazar removed his handcuffs and waited . Suresh walked out shortly only to assault the constable and run away from the bus terminus into the darkness. The constable gave a chase but was unable to nab him. After reporting the matter at CMBT police station, he got himself admitted to the Government Kilpauk hospital .

Sureshwas arrested by a police team in Ervadi, Ramanathaouram in 2014 when he attempted to smuggle contraband. He was remanded to judicial custody in the case and remained at Puzhal prison.

  1. Anything is possible in India. Jayalalitha escapes despite a pile of corruption charges of 18 long years. What else you expect from Indian judiciary?
