Hotel conducts internal investigation over incident

A leading hotel in Colombo said that it has launched an internal investigation into an incident where guests?attending a private function at the hotel, fell ill last evening.

On Friday evening, twelve out of 175 guests attending a private function at the Oak Room of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo fell ill during the event.

The police had told the media that it had launched an investigation over the incident.

The hotel, meanwhile, said that it facilitated the transfer of the affected guests to hospital and all twelve guests had been discharged on Saturday.

Samples of all food and beverages served at the function have been handed to the various government authorities to carry out an independent investigation while the hotel will also carry out an internal investigation.

The results of these investigations will be shared with all concerned. Cinnamon Grand said it regrets this incident and will ensure its fullest cooperation towards ascertaining what caused it.
