The United National Party (UNP) has denied claims made by former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella that he was invited to rejoin the party.
A former UNP MP,?Rambukwella had joined the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government and was the Media Minister until?Rajapaksa lost the January 8 Presidential election.
Rambukwella had recently claimed that he was invited by the UNP to rejoin the party but UNP General Secretary Kabir Hashim today denied the claims.
Hashim said that so far no one from the UNP has even stated in public that?Rambukwella was asked to join the UNP or should be invited to join the UNP.
The?UNP General Secretary however claimed?that following the January 8 Presidential election,?Rambukwella had made at least three attempts to rejoin the UNP.
On one occasion, Hashim said that following the January 8 Presidential election,?Rambukwella had met party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and urged him to take him back into the party.
Hashim said that when the fist attempt failed,?Rambukwella had made at least two other attempts but even those attempts had not been successful. (Colombo Gazette)
