Gnanasara arrested and later freed on bail

The?police today arrested?Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary, the Venerable Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thera after he produced?himself before the police.

A warrant was issued recently?on?Gnanasara Thera after he failed to appear before the court over his alleged participation at a protest in front of the Bribery and Corruption?Commission last month.

The Colombo Magistrate?s Court had on April 22 issued a notice banning protests in front of the Commission over the decision to summon former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse.

However a group of opposition parliamentarians and monks had gone ahead with the protest.

On April 24, the Colombo Magistrate issued notice on 27 people including ten opposition parliamentarians to appear before the court on contempt of court charges but Gnanasara Thera had failed to appear.

Gnanasara Thera was produced before a Magistrate following his arrest today and was freed on bail. (Colombo Gazette)

AG orders CID to file case on Duminda

The Attorney General (AG) has instructed the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to file a case?against MP Duminda Silva over the killing of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.
