Next election under existing system

The next election will be held under the existing electoral system, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has told minor political parties.
Democratic People’s Front (DPF) leader Mano Ganeshan said that Parliament will be dissolved as soon as the 20th Amendment to the constitution is passed.
He said that the Prime Minister had told?minor political parties today that after Parliament is dissolved, elections will be held under the existing system.
Ganesan further said that the members of the core group of the Assembly of the Minor parties (AMP) have prepared?a brief policy paper on electoral reforms.
“It would be AMP?s response to the Presidential proposals submitted at the cabinet on April 29th. This policy paper would be submitted to the General Council consisting of representatives from all political minority parties and ethnic minority parties. The minor and minority parties are set to meet in Colombo on Friday 8th. Subsequently, cabinet ministers representing AMP will jointly submit the policy paper to the cabinet,” he said.
