Anura Kumara new JVP leader

Anura KumaraThe Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has appointed parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the new party leader.

The appointment was approved at the party convention held today and he replaces Somawansa Amarasinghe as the party leader.

JVP MP Vijitha Herath said that the appointment of Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the new party leader was unanimously approved.

Amarasinghe, meanwhile, said that he will continue to work for the party till he dies or till he is killed.

He also said that no one in the party asked to be made the party leader as that is merely just a post.

He said that all those in the JVP want to work for the party and fulfill their responsibilities towards the people. (Colombo Gazette)

What if the Democratic Party and the JVP become the majority and main opposition leaving the SLFP and the UNP in the dust? Oh, that would be sweet. Hey, this is just a couple of provinces, not the whole government, right? It will be a good way to find out how the two minor parties will handle power.

At least, we’re still free to dream…
