The government says boycotting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) will bring disrespect for the Commonwealth and not Sri Lanka.
Deputy External Affairs Minister Neomal Perera said that Sri Lanka expects all the countries to be represented at the Colombo summit.
However he said the government will respect any decision taken by heads of governments to skip the summit over their domestic political issues.
The Deputy Minister said that even India has fully supported Sri Lanka to make the summit a success.
While Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said he will not attend the summit there have been reports that Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may also ship owing to pressure from Tamil Nadu. (Colombo Gazette)
