The gazette notification giving the President powers to deploy the army to any district in Sri Lanka is to be challenged, lawyers said today.
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) says it has appointed a two man committee to look at the gazette notification.
An executive member of the BASL said that the committee is expected to make some recommendations which will be used to take legal action on the gazette.
The gazette, which is renewed monthly, gives the President the powers to deploy the army to all of the 25 districts in Sri Lanka for security reasons including to control mob violence. (Colombo Gazette)
