The remaining suspect in the Lasantha Wickramatunga murder trial was freed by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate today.
The suspect, a soldier, was freed by Magistrate Ranga Wimalasena, when the case was taken up for hearing today.
A lawyer appearing in the case told the Colombo Gazette that the suspect was freed on the advice of the Attorney General.
The suspect had earlier told open court that he was forced to admit to the murder of Wickrematunga.
Wickrematunga was assassinated on 9 January 2009 while he was on his way to his Ratmalana office.
Another suspect who had been arrested over the murder of the founding Editor of The Sunday Leader, had died in prison in October 2011. (Colombo Gazette)
