Illegal asylum seekers arrested

The Ambalangoda police arrested 27 Australia bound boat people at several locations last night.
According to the police media unit, the arrests were made based on information received by the police.
The police first arrested a group staying at a hotel in Ambalangoda last night while they were preparing for the boat journey.
Another group was then arrested from a house in the Galle area while a third group was arrested from Beruwala, the police media unit said today.
Among those arrested are seven Sinhalese men while the rest are Tamils including six women and four children.
All those arrested are residents of Trincomalee, Negombo, Vavuniya, Galle, Ambalangoda, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu. (Colombo Gazette)

Teen arrested in Gampola for spreading fake news

A teen has been arrested in Gampola for allegedly spreading fake news on social media, the Police said today. Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the 19-year-old was arrested in Kahatapitiya in Gampola.
