Police arrest 12 over violence

The police have arrested 12 people as of today over pre-election violations, ahead of the provincial council elections next month.
According to the police elections unit 40 complaints had been received from the time accepting nominations for the polls were closed.
Of the 40 complaints, the police said that 33 have bee investigated.
Most complaints were related to pasting posters and cut-outs in violation of election laws.
Meanwhile the Department of Elections said it had received 149 complaints related to pre-election violations.
Of the complaints, 10 incidents were related to pre-election violence while the rest were related to the violation of elections laws. (Colombo Gazette)
