Mattala a joke for some says MR (Audio)

President Mahinda Rajapaksa says the Mattala international airport has become a joke for some but they fail to see what the country has to gain from this in the future.
Speaking at an event in Nuwara Eliya today, the President said that earlier if an airline could not land or refuel at the Bandaranaike International Airport it had to be prepared to fly to Chennai.
However now that Sri Lanka has two International airports, a passenger plane can be diverted to Mattala and not India.
The President also said that while the Colombo port is now up to international standards a second international port was open in Hambantota.
He said that the country may not experience the benefits of these projects today but it will in the future.
?I have always told my government not to work thinking about just today but tomorrow as well. That is what is expected of the government,? he said.
He also said that some people are going to countries like India, Canada and Britain and saying things about the country but those countries cannot solve Sri Lanka?s domestic problems.
?We must solve our problems. We must talk and resolve any problem we have if any,? he said.
The President said that he does not need to remind the people about the countries who talk against Sri Lanka.
He also said that development can be achieved only by working in support with the government and not by clashing with the government. (Colombo Gazette)
