Flash floods have been reported from parts of Nuwara Eliya this evening following heavy rain.
Several families have been displaced and they have been transferred to temporary shelters.
Sudden increase of southwesterly winds speed is expected during next two days.
Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology said that there is a possibility of monsoon winds increasing up to 60-80 kmph over the western and southern seas and over the island particularly along the western slopes of the Central hills during the next two days.
It said that winds will be at a Southwesterly direction and speeds will be 30-50 kmph. The deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo and Galle may be rough and dangerous with strong Southwesterly winds of up to 60-80 kmph at times. (Colombo Gazette)
