Demo at Moratuwa

A demonstration was staged in Moratuwa by carpenters demanding action by the government over their grievances.
The demonstrators blocked the road at Rawatawatte which affected the traffic flow along the road.
The carpenters claimed that their business has been severely affected by carpenters in the East who make wood products using trees chopped down from the jungle.
Meanwhile Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga had visited the protestors in an attempt to discuss their concerns.
However the demonstrators hurled some objects towards the Minister forcing the police to intervene. ?(Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka completes 100,000 PCR tests

Sri Lanka has completed 100,000 Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests so far, the Ministry of Health said today. Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that Sri Lanka, which had completed 98,634 tests by yesterday (Tuesday), had crossed the 100,000 mark today. Meanwhile, a new lab was declared open today where 500 tests can be carried out daily. The lab has been established in Mulleriyawa. (Colombo Gazette)
