Weliweriya death toll rises

The death toll from the clashes in Weliweriya rose to two last night after a 19 year old youth succumbed to his injuries in hospital. According to the police, the youth was receiving treatment at the Colombo National hospital. Earlier a 17 year old boy was killed from the Weliweriya violence and over 25 others sustained injuries. A third person succumbed to his injuries suffered from the clashes at Weliweriya, hospital sources said. Army chief assures fair probe (Audio)

Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake says the army cannot react to various claims being made over the Weliweriya incident and so action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations carried out by the army board of inquiry.
