Ranil calls for massive demo

UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for massive demonstrations to be held against the government and push for early elections.
Wickremesinghe accused the government of acting like LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabakaran.
He said there was a need for the people to rise up against the government.
The UNP leader also said that the UNP will prepare for an election at grass root level and an announcement in this regard will be made in August.
He also expressed confidence of winning the polls in Kandy during provincial council elections in September and hopes that will be the starting point of the UNP to defeat the government.
UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella, meanwhile said that the UNP needs to be strengthened at Village level first.
He said that there are so many issues ?faced by the people in the country as a result of actions taken the government.
The UNP MP said that the public will look at the UNP to bring them out of these issues if the party is first strong at village level.
He noted that the elections in September will be decisive and if the UNP wins the elections it will be able to set the stage to win General elections next year. (Colombo Gazette)
