Nurses strike a flop says Ministry

17 Jul, 2013

The Ministry of Health says the strike launched today by nurses in support of a trade union was unsuccessful.
The Government Nursing Officers Association launched the strike this morning over various demands.
However according to a Health Ministry spokesman 90 percent of the nurses had turned up for work at state hospitals around the country.
The spokesman said that Directors at all state hospitals had confirmed the attendance of the nurses and said that activities at the hospitals were not affected.
He said that the United Nurses Union had not supported the strike launched by the union headed by Saman Ratnapriya.
Meanwhile Ratnapriya claimed that the strike was successful and that most nurses had stayed away from work today. (Colombo Gazette)
