The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has decided to appear on behalf of land owners in the North who?s land the government is about to acquire.
BASL sources said that more than 300 land owners had approached the BASL for help and the lawyers of the Association had responded positively.
Hundreds of acres of land owned by Tamils in the North are to be acquired by the government ahead of the Northern Provincial Council polls, BASL sources said.
?We will be appearing for the aggrieved parties for free following a request made to us by them,? the BASL said.
The Executive Committee of the BASL is expected to ratify the decision at its next meeting.
