Private bus operators have decided to call off their strike which was launched early this morning, Lanka Private bus Owners Association President Gemunu Wijeyratne said.
He said that several bus operators who had gone on strike today were threatened and the association subsequently decided to end the bus strike prematurely.
Wijeyratne said that the strike was successful as most private buses stayed off the roads during the few hours the strike was in force.
However he said some bus operators were arrested over various charges and others were threatened forcing the strike to be called off.
Earlier there were reports of some private buses which defied the strike this morning being attacked.
The strike was launched to demand a bus fare hike. However several bus associations had decided not to take part in the strike.?(Colombo Gazette)
