Fonseka campaigns in Jaffna

05 Jul, 2013

Former army commander Sarath Fonseka conducted campaigns in Jaffna yesterday to promote his new political party, the Democratic Party.
The Jaffna based Uthayan newspaper said that Fonseka had met families in Jaffna during his visit including those affected by the war.
At one meeting a mother whose son was reported missing during the war in 2006 urged Fonseka, who was the army commander at that time, to intervene and locate her son.
A resident of Chavakacheri, the woman claimed that her 15 year old son had been abducted while that same year her 16 year old son was killed.
She claimed that her son was in army custody since 2006 and her plea for his release had fallen in deaf ears.
The woman said that she had lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission over the incident. (Colombo Gazette)
