Cabinet spokesman and Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says the 13th Amendment to the constitution must change.
Speaking in Kandy today, the Minister said that it is surprising the 13th Amendment remained unchanged for so many years.
He said that a public debate is now on over some of the clauses in the?13th?Amendment including on the land and police powers and merging provinces.
“This must change. Some clauses must change,” the Minister said.
The Minister said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa felt he has no right to decide on the changes to the constitution on his own.
As a result Parliament has now been given time to propose some changes to the 13th?Amendment, he said. (Colombo Gazette)
