Storm death toll crosses 50

The death toll from the storm last weekend has crossed the 50 mark with 16 people still missing.

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) said that  most of those killed and missing are fishermen.

According to the DMC, 13595 people have been affected since last Friday by the storm.

Relief assistance has been provided to the affected families while search and rescue operations are continuing to locate those missing.

Of those killed, 29 are from the Galle District including 27 from Balapitiya. The DMC said that 10 people were also reported killed from the Colombo District and another 10 in Kalutara.

The DMC also said that 153 houses have been fully damaged by the storm and 3385 houses partially damaged.
